edges Showcase of Contemporary Media Art
MediaNet, is pleased to announce a week-long exhibition and four nights of projections for the edges media art showcase, Nov 13 – 16, at the Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria Gallery, 1001 Douglas, in the Sussex Building courtyard. MediaNet thanks the CACGV for its valuable support for edges.
This year edges presents a showcase of innovative short video art works from across Canada, as well as a spotlight on local artists. The opening night features a Showcase of Vancouver Island film and video makers, on Thursday, November 13th at 7pm, followed by a reception.
On Friday, November 14th, at 7pm edges presents the screening “places and histories”
On Saturday, November 15 at 2pm, there will be a performance by sound and video artist, Tina Pearson, of the Second Life Avatar Metaverse Orchestra. This will be followed by a discussion with Tina, as well as installation artists, Farheen Haq, Judy Price, and curator Leena Minifie, and a gallery reception.
Saturday night at 7pm edges features a presentation of contemporary Aboriginal short films and videos, curated by Leena Minifie from Vancouver's Video In/ Video Out media art centre, featuring numerous works recently shown at the ImagiNative First Nations media arts festival in Toronto.
Ulla Ryghe, film editor for Ingmar Bergman, and author of the memoir Travels in Wonderland, will be speaking on Sunday, November 16 at 3:30pm. Sunday night's screening is Form, Motion and Dreamscape, film and video works exploring the interplay between shape, sound, and story, at 7pm.
